I was getting ready for a date when the drain clogged in the shower.  I grabbed the plunger to fix it, thinking to myself that I probably looked like such a goon.  Here I was with soap and shampoo cascading off of me and jumping up and down to no avail.  How was I going to get this fixed, finish showering and get to the other side of San Francisco in less than two hours?

Luckily for me I was able to get a good plumber on the phone who said he would be over in no time. I was a bit worried that they were going to be late and I was going to miss my date, but the San Francisco based plumber arrived in 30 minutes.

Once the plumber got to my house he went to work on it immediately and like magic they were in and out.  They simply took a tool they called a snake and fixed the problem.

Though the drain clogged before, I never did much to fix it and on occasion I would get a bottle of some of the liquid stuff.  The more I used some of the cheap liquid stuff, the more the drain seemed to clog. He had it fixed in about 15 minutes.

I talked to the plumber about the liquid stuff and they told me that some of the liquid stuff can actually cause serious problems over time, they damage the pipes.  Some older homes in San Francisco have certain types of pipes that are jointed together with stuff that the liquid cleaners eat away, making the problem worse.

Thankfully I was able to get to my date in time and my plumbing problems seem to be fixed for good. If you have a drain clogged and nothing seems to be working, do not pour gallons of cleaners down the drain, just call a professional with the right tools to fix it like magic.

A continuous feed unit is operated from an external switch such as a wall switch at or under the sink and can be continuously fed garbage as the unit is run. A batch feed unit is operated from an internal switch that is activated with the “stopper”. A batch of garbage is loaded into the unit and the “stopper” is inserted and usually turned to activate the switch. After the batch has been ground up and gone down the drain another batch is loaded and the process continues.

It depends on personal preference and how the wireing is set up for the unit as to which size and type to install.
